Couldn't do the Cascade 1200 this year? Still want a brevet with dramatic
mountain scenery and big climbs and descents? Have we got the ride
for you! Come to Bend for the Cascade Lakes 200 on July 10. This is the
highest brevet in Oregon: starting elevation is 3600 ft, and it tops out
at 6400. Along the way, you'll be riding thru pine forests and along
the upper reaches of the Deschutes River, with views of Mt. Bachelor,
the Three Sisters and Broken top, among others. And it ends with a 15
mile descent back into Bend. How can you beat that?
Description:
Leaving Bend on the Cascade Lakes highway, the route climbs for about
15 miles toward Mt Bachelor. A quick downhill leads to the Sunriver
cutoff for more downhill to (you guessed it) Sunriver. From Sunriver
to Sparks Lake, it's flat to rolling, trending uphill. The last big
climb of the day starts at Sparks, and tops out at the Mt Bachelor ski
area. From there, it's all downhill, except for the parts that aren't
(one "short" approximate 1.5 mile climb and some flat stuff).
Cumulative elevation gain is about 6000 feet.
All riders should be familiar with and abide by rider expectations.
